Benefits Of Volunteering To Volunteer

I volunteered in the recovery room of a hospital for 6 months earlier this year. I was primarily shadowing the nurses as they prepared the patients for transition to the regular rooms.`I also took down results, helped patients get food/drug items they needed, help transport them around the hospital and provided general support to the nursing staff. This was my first experience with volunteering, and it showed me how beneficial it is to not think about myself but help others, while becoming more immersed in my chosen field. On the other hand, it also made me realize that it would be more rewarding to volunteer in a setting with even less available

After moving to the United States my first stint at volunteering was at Alta Bates (Shutter Health) hospital. I started of working as a cashier & salesman at the hospital gift shop, this opportunity provided me lot of people interaction thereby improving my customer service. My manager trusted me so much that there were days when she allowed me to manage the shop for few hours in her absence, this provided me valuable leadership lessons. (More details to be added). As a volunteer I hope to develop skills that will help me become more well rounded, skills such as being humble, charitable, generous, involved, and selfness. In my community we have a lake, where students can volunteer on a monthly basis. I started volunteering at the lake when I was in sixth grade and continue to do so up until this day. I also enjoy volunteering to help the refugees who attend my church. My task is to help them learn how to use computers and write resumes in order to get jobs, but rather than doing it for the ‘recognition’ I use my free time to better the lives of others and that is enough of a reason for me to do it again and…

Early upon entering the College of Social Work I became interested in the homeless population. In my junior year, I took the time to volunteer with the Renaissance Community Center, an organization that provides various services to Homeless individuals in Tallahassee. Volunteering here taught me about people and the effects of interpersonal communication, how the availability of services can aid people during personal crisis, and the limitations of resources and access on a vulnerable population such as the homeless. This experience is valuable to me as it increased my interest in the population and my awareness of how it intersects with values and the purpose of social work.…

Thus, I enrolled in a volunteering program at Greenwich Hospital in order to not only encounter a doctor’s working environment, but also to serve the patients who are a member of my community in Greenwich. In the hospital my job can range from sorting and arranging hundreds of mails, escorting patients, helping with maintaining hygiene, to sending flowers to the patients. According to my supervisor and the volunteers’ website, there are approximately a total of 700 volunteers who the staff believe to be the unsound heros of the hospital. Due to the number of volunteers, the staff assign us to different sections of the hospital within which assigning to be an escorter is one of my favorite as it allows me to encounter patients and doctors from different departments. Gradually from observation and conversation with many of the doctors in the hospital and some of my father’s friends I perceived the drudgery, the stress, the paper works, the coordination, the management skills that are necessary for surviving in this field after having endured the hardship of medical school.…

In the summer of my junior year, I had the opportunity to volunteer at Scott & White Hospital. Known in the area for their exceptional care, I was ecstatic to discover that I was chosen out of hundreds of applicants to participate in their Junior Volunteer program. The program enables high school students to shadow medical professionals, ranging from lab technicians to orthopedic surgeons, and learn about the medical field. The thought of learning about healthcare while helping people in need sounded fantastic to me. Volunteering in a hospital was a wonderful way to spend my summer and a great chance to give back to the community.…

For five years, I went to the Boys and Girls Club during the summer, and once a week we would visit the retirement homes to play bingo and conversate with the elderly residents. Unlike many of the other kids, I was more fascinated with watching the interaction between the nurses and their patients rather than playing games. I watched as the nurses would walk over to patients, adjust their blankets, and pillows as they showed so much compassion. I remember that day so vividly watching the nurses care for others so generously as if it was first nature and I looked at them with the utmost respect. Since that day, I have aspired to be a nurse and to care for others because, at the end of the day, that could be me, or a loved one, you never know…

I have volunteered for the Naples Zoo, Gulf Coast Humane Society, Caleb’s Crusade, as well as St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. At the Naples Zoo, I assisted during their construction and I guided visitor’s through the zoo, since there was blocked off areas due to the construction. For the Gulf Coast Humane Society, I volunteered with them in a non-traditional way. I collected old t-shirts from Delta Delta Delta sisters and I used them to make over 100 chew toys for the dogs at the humane society. By doing this I know I was able to make an impact on the animals that were already in the shelter as well as the ones that have yet to come.…

I've always felt like I have more to offer to the world. In what way, I'm not exactly sure, but only that I am brimming with potential, just waiting to let it out. That is why I began volunteering at Grace Hospice. I never gave much thought to those who work so hard to make the lives of those of the brink of death as comfortable as can be. Until one day I realized that I have so much more to offer to the world.…

My healthcare volunteering experience began in high school when I started volunteering at Baylor Hospital in Grapevine, Texas. There I was assigned papers and files to sort and I occasionally got to shadow various doctors. This went on for a month after I graduated high school and before I started college. Many high school seniors have a hard time selecting a major. Most people probably thought I would do something with mathematics. Mathematics seemed to run in my family but simply doesn’t hold the interest for me as it does for my father or siblings. While I have been fortunate to realize what I would like to study in college and spend my life doing, nursing was not a lifelong calling nor did I have an epiphany.…

If only there would have been more people volunteering, then so much more people could have been helped. And if more people can be help, then the suffering on earth can be ease. The big problem is that everyone is so busy with their personal life that they forget about the importance of helping others. A positive aspect I saw was that those who were already volunteering were really dedicated and kind hearted. I believe they are making a big impact on every person they touched and made it a task to spread their kindness.…
