Most people already know the benefits that come along with owning a dog. Some include keeping us active, reducing stress, and they can even detect life-threatening health issues, but the most common reason why someone would might get a dog is because they make the best companions. Dogs are great pets to have, but sometimes it does not turn out as well as we would hope, especially if you get them as a puppy. That is why it is important to train them properly.

When you first bring your new puppy home, you will want to give it a name. Make sure it is one that you and your dog will love. The name should be simple, that way it will be easier for the dog to learn it. It should be short and ending in a strong consonant.

Teach your puppy not to nip or chew on other people's hands. You should be able to take your dog on walks without worrying about it being around people or other dogs. Being confident that your dog will not harm anything or anyone is a good feeling. It is very important to teach your dog acceptance of being handled. Begin handling your puppy immediately so it is used to it. They will eventually learn to accept anything that you need to do to them. When you give your dog a bath, clip its nails, or put a collar on it, the main thing you want from it is cooperation.

Make sure you know when you will be out of the house. Your puppy should not be alone for a long period of time. If you are going away, make arrangements for it. Whether you have someone pet-sit your dog or have them come to your house and feed it and take it out.

There are many things to consider when training a dog. You need to make sure you are up for the challenge if you want to give your dog the best possible home. It will also make owning a dog easier for you in the long run. Many owners have turned over their older dogs to animal shelters because they did not take the time or did not have the dedication to train them properly. It is important to teach your puppy good habits early because you only have one chance before they learn bad ones.
