A study conducted in Alzheimer’s patients found that by using the Wii Fit, patients were able to improve their balance and cognitive functions (Padala et al., 2012). A similar pilot study was conducted in cerebral palsy children to determine if an increase in sensorimotor skills would improve. This study also concluded that using a Wii Fit showed significant improvements in both the balance and gait in every child that was tested. (Tarakci, Ozdincler, Tutuncuoglu, & Ozmen, 2013). I am a visual learner and I feel the positives to this program really is the chart tracking and watching your graph lines decrease toward your target weight and BMI goal. A study conducted among adolescents, young adults, and older adults found that the physiological cost using Wii Fit was significantly greater than playing handheld video games, which has been a growing concern over the years with a sedentary lifestyle (Graves et al., 2010). The Wii Fit was lower than using a treadmill to exercise with all three age groups. However the energy expenditure and the physical activity of Wii aerobics proved to be comparable to jumping on the trampoline and considered moderate intensity.
