About the benefits and the costs that it caused. I personally think that the cost weighed the benefits. The Great Wall was supposed to protect China from Mongols. It may have done the complete opposite.
First, the benefits that were supposed to outweigh the costs. The first benefit is that they protected the people on “both” sides of the wall. The wall was tall enough for people not to climb over and hurt the opposite side. Another benefit is that The Great Wall expanded trade through the Silk Road. More people who were watching the build or building, could also participate in trade.
