I observed this in all of the children. Jack hammered , “his,” nail for over 10 minutes. With each strike of the hammer he would smile, and say, “Look at me, I am hitting my nail.” Soren was confident and climbed up on a step ladder to get just the right wrench for his project. While Lucas delighted in showing me all his, “Wheels.” Being empowered to use real tools, offers children responsibility. Our classroom has been asking questions about Risk Taking Play and the benefits of it. I believe that by slowly introducing the children to the use of tools they are taking on more responsibility with each use. Soren was using the tape measure, and when Jack started coming close to him Soren said, “Space, this is fast.” The week before we had been exploring the speed and trajectory a tape measure has when it is pulled out and released. The children were accomplishing challenging tasks, gaining new skills and taking pride in their accomplishments. The experience with “flinstone technology,” was inspiriting. I could see nearly all of the Early Learning and Development guidelines being demonstrated by the children. One of my favorite moments was of Soren using the tape measure, he would hold it down on the workbench and say, “One, this is

My job as a chemistry teaching assistant also required a combination of personal and practical skills and ability to be assertive without arrogance. Each week the students had to submit a heavy load of assignments, and keeping track of grading alone required a developed level in time efficiency, accountability, and organizing skills. I had to be knowledgeable enough about the subject to comprise worksheet, practice exams, review sessions, and grade fairly. I also had to know how to communicate that knowledge to the students: proving feedback on misunderstood requirements, clearly answering any questions they had about the material. I knew an accelerated chemistry course can be overwhelming, I always encouraged and motivated the students when…

If you ask me whether or not I like children, my answer, given grudgingly, would always be yes. That’s not to say I have any particular dislike for them, but an hour of trying to teach them what the number 11 is when they try to count on their fingers can only be described as incredibly tiring. “Come on you guys, 11 is not the number 1”, I told them gently. It would have been another mind-numbing hour had one of the fellow student-helpers not suggested I use blocks instead. We made immediate progress from that point.…

Based on data I collected from coach observations, peer observations, and feedback I decided to focus on OETF indicator 1.B.1: Plans meaningful tasks that require student ownership. Upon determining that indicator and creating a teacher practice goal based on the data I collected, I began to further breakdown my observation feedback and use that as a baseline level. I noticed from my initial feedback that all of my students were not engaging in the task completely. I felt as though I could better support my students as I want them to all feel successful. In order to do that I worked with my coach and reflected on my task and how it could be adapted in the planning stage to be more meaningful.…

All teachers performed great jobs at creating a unified classroom of learners. The students have favorable moments to act as chiefs and helpmates with individual responsibilities; their jobs are placed in a pocket folder on the wall. Students could participate in classroom activities in a variety of ways. Ms. Atkinson, Bell, Waldoky, and Gullekerson used a rocking chair during their teachable moments. Dance Teacher Reflection

A teacher in a general sense is someone that teaches to another person, and I think that teaching is one of the most needed professions there is. By teaching in schools and working with young kids, we are nurturing the minds of people who could have the cure for cancer or find new research about space. And with teaching there are many different philosophies about how teachers should act and interact with their students, but personally I lean more towards a Progressive view of teaching; I believe that there is more to school than testing and there is more learning that could be done outside of the classroom. In terms of professionalism, I would say that I have more experience than some other people who are looking to enter the education profession; I have been a dance teacher for about three years,…

What I’ve learned about being a teacher that I didn’t realize before this experience was that being a teacher is exhausting and that a teacher’s job never ends. At the beginning of the semester, I wasn’t that tired. I would just go and help out in the classroom. As I gradually began to talk over, the more exhausted I became. I had to write lesson plans for my units on top of my own personal school work.…
