Personal Statement: A Career As A Software Engineer

Ever since I was small I have always liked technology. Watching TV, playing video games, and listening to music have always been my favorite things to do. I have seen technology everywhere, on my TV set, my radio, and my video game console. As I grew up, I discovered my passion towards technology, and since then I know what to do in my life. Every time I would damage my computer, broke my phone, or even damage my video games console, my uncle would always fix it. He works with computers and machines in his job, so he has always been a role model to me. It amazes me how much he knows about electronics and technology. I knew that my career had to be something dealing with computers and technology. However, there are many engineering fields to choose from. The benefit of taking software engineering is that it supplements people who want to be in the field of accounting, business, or finance. Software engineers that work for a company have benefits such as “health insurance, sick leave, and paid vacations” (Ferguson, 2003, p. 174). One of the top benefits for a software engineer is the high salary. Most of the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) carries offer the highest pay below medical careers. Science and technology are something people cannot live without, so there will always be a high demand for those jobs. Most of the jobs for software engineering are located in the best cities in America, so not only someone can benefit from the job but also where they live. Having the knowledge of being able to code is another benefit because someone is able to program anything. If a computer, video console, or application is not working properly a software engineer can fix it without having to wait for someone else to fix
