Benefits Of Sex Education In Schools

Teaching sex education in schools has been an ongoing topic for debate for many years. Schools send home information informing parents of an upcoming class, and give the option of approving or declining the class for their child. Parents have the option to decline if they feel the information is in the best interest of their child. Schools are able to teach on a personal level to students, where most parents are not comfortable in doing so. Studies show children are more likely to seek out help from a peer or teacher more frequently than their parent. With parental consent, sex education should be mandatory in all public schools. Sex education in schools can educate adolescents on their changing bodies. In particular, at the grade level when sex education is taught, children are adolescents, still growing, and puberty has not begun. The information provided by the schools sex education class helps children understand why these changes are happening in their bodies and how to deal with them. For example, the school shows many informative videos and offers handouts which encourages the children to interact with one another, and offers chances for them to ask questions. With this in mind, children gain accurate information from trained professionals, instead of unreliable sources such as; television shows, movies, or even the internet. The proper information teaches our young generation the importance of accurate information and how it applies to their well being. Above all, mandatory sex education in schools can help bring the awareness and importance of its teachings to light and society can one day realize how important it is to our
