Personal Reflective Essay: How Training Has Changed My Life

When I was a little, my mother made sure I was involved in sports. Although I’m a girl, she wanted me to focus only on sports, rather than learn how to walk in heals, which I still struggle with today. Tennis was the first sport I joined at the age of five, but that was not enough. As I began training for tennis tournaments, my coach decided that I need to join track in order to increase my speed on the court. For my mother that was a marvelous idea, but for me it was not as marvelous. The first couple years I was in track, my performance was through the roof, both in tennis and track. There were times where I just wanted to quit and free myself, but then I realized how much I love running because it allows me to join a team full of all kinds of talents, allows me to make long lasting friends and most importantly allows me to be in control of my life. Although running allows me to be control of my life, it took me a long time to realizes its benefits. When I started college, my stress levels increased and my busy days became busier. Running is my outlet to release the extra stress in my life. It gives me the opportunity to spend some time with myself and my thoughts; helps me get in touch with my inner self. Whenever I run, most of my worries about school and life disappear and my confidence increases. Not only does running help me release stress and anxiety, but running does much more. The benefits of running vary from something small like the convenience of it to helping prevent cancer. Until I started research about running I never knew all the benefits that come with. This helped me realize that running has more of an impact on my life than I even though before. I’m able to reconnect with my inner-self, while staying healthy and defeating
