Nowadays, people are becoming sedentary instead of exercising. According to the questionnaire, older people are least likely to meet suggested guidelines of physical activity (Murphy, 2009). Whereas many professionals, who are concerned for human health, claim that taking physical activities is contributing to health, some argue that there are risks of exercising. The issue of whether regular exercise is good for the healthy lifestyle for people of all ages is being increasingly discussed. In this essay, the benefits of taking regular exercising for people and the risks will be considered. Besides, the more suitable way of doing physical activities will be recommended.

Physically, some believe that old people are not suitable to do exercise because of experiencing physical symptoms, such as shortness of breath, algetic joints, and lack of energy (Murphy, 2009). In fact, according to the assertion of the Age and Ageing paper, shortness of breath is a symptom of disease rather than a cause of exercising, besides, regular and suitable physical activity can contribute to the mitigation of painful joints,

However, this is not quite true because the National Institute of Mental and Age Concern has shown that regular and proper exercising can enhance mental health in reducing anxiety, depression and stress (Murphy, 2009). People who exercise steadily and continually also experience improved overall psychological wellbeing, as well as enhanced cognitive function (Murphy, 2009). Such positive experiences can make someone feel more outgoing, and more willing to contact with the community.
