The children will become active learners in the process and the hand on experiment they will receive. Once the students begin to get physically involved in the plants and gardening process they will start to develop lots of patience because with gardening you must have lots of patience in order to watch the plants and gardens grow from beginning to end and it also takes patience and lots of care to care for a plant or garden. This thematic unit is developmentally appropriate for preschoolers because children want to learn and explore. Plants and gardening will help the student’s development physically, emotionally and also help their social development while teaching them cognitive skills. By the children engaging with materials, getting involved in different activities and working closely with other students this help meet the needs of the ever growing child. I believe when the student becomes physically involved in the process of gardening this will engage the students whom may have trouble sitting still and keeping quiet and concentrating in a classroom setting. Creating a thematic unit about plants and gardening will help the children become active learners and will really grab their attention while learning about plants and gardening. The student will be able to gain experience of how plants and gardening works while learning in the process and also interactions through assessments, scaffolding and accommodations.
