The Benefits of Physical Activity Human body is designed for physical activity. Otherwise, people all over the world face various health issues in terms of obesity, cardiovascular problems, diabetes, cancer, muscle weakness, and even depression. Moreover, active people usually enjoy better life expectancy. Physical activity is a key factor for improving the life expectancy and its overall quality. Obesity is sometimes called “the greatest epidemic of the 21st century” because the percentage of the obese people all over the world grows day by day. The number of the obese people grows both in the developed and developing countries. Hence, obesity is not only about high fat and high sugar food. Muscle-strengthening activity helps preventing bone fractures from osteoporosis. 40+ age women have to pay more attention to physical activity because they are exposed to higher risk of losing muscle mass. Proper physical activity thus reinforces both bones and muscles, providing better quality of lfie as well as life expectancy. Elder women are recommended to use exercise bands, hand-held weights and weight machines. Calisthenic exercise is also highly recommended for elder women. Calisthenic exercise means weight of body plays a role of counterweight. Gardening is also an excellent type of physical activity. For example, carrying, lifting and digging are proved to be effective types of physical activity. Yoga is a combination of physical activity and intellectual activity. At that point yoga is highly recommended for elder adults of 40+ age. They train both their muscles and brain while practicing yoga. The number of yoga practitioners in the U.S. alone grows extremely fast. Weight-training machines or free weights are highly recommended for calisthenic exercise. Pilates is an excellent way of training muscles and bones, using a stability ball. Calisthenic exercises imply sit-ups, push-ups, squats, lunges and dips (Kreitzer 8).
