5 Tips in Pet-Proofing Your Home
Your house is a hodgepodge of stuff your pets find interesting. If they stick their snouts in the wrong door, they can get seriously injured or make a big mess. It is your job as a responsible pet owner to make sure that your home is safe for you and your pets. If you think that you are lacking in pet-proofing your home, use these five tips to help you fortify your pets’ surroundings.

Make Your Furniture Uncomfortable
Dogs and cats like to sit, scratch and bite furniture. However, after they are done using your couch you are left with a ruined piece of upholstery. Damaged furniture not only looks terrible, but a difficult mess to clean up as well. That’s why it is good to teach your pets to stay off the couch during their puppy or kitty stages. Nevertheless, some pets are still quite stubborn and insist on being on the couch even after training. When this happens, it’s time that you make your furniture uncomfortable for your pets.
You can place aluminum foil on top of your dining chairs to prevent cats from jumping on them. You can also make the chair feel sticky by sticking placemats on the chair’s surface with double-sided tape. If all else fails, you can set harmless traps on the furniture. One example is to stack a bunch of empty soda cans on the chair. When your pets have the urge to jump on the couch, the cans will topple all over – startling your pets. Over time, your pets will realize that being on the sofa is not a good idea. These strategies also work on counters, tables and coffee tables.
