The high-speed lane would be occupied by internet companies and media companies, and affluent households. For everyone else there would be the slow lane.
Many internet companies are willing to choose against net neutrality because they can profit from it more. In the New York Times post, it states: “the broadband and telecom companies — and some economists — say that the freedom to charge different prices for different products and services is vital to healthy markets.” indicating they will not hesitate to charge you extra, despite your income.
Secondly, it is now that discrimination is still common, whether we choose to believe it or not. The internet is a place where people are not discriminated by race, the color of their skin, gender, religion, etc. and with net neutrality, it is a place with people who are normally discriminated to have a voice, because they are deemed as the minority and do not have a say so in particular kinds of controversial topics. For example, recently people who have been apart of the #METOO movement are coming out about being sexually assaulted. If net neutrality was not in place, the people who were accused of sexual assault could pay an internet company to remove the post from the internet. Net neutrality provides the “minority” a voice. The government is in control of what we do, for the majority of the time. The government cannot slow down or blocked certain websites for a user because they do not like it. The first amendment states that “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.” which means that we have the right to post, publish, and blog about whatever we want without the government
