Medical benefits There’s a long list of medical benefits that marijuana offers including insomnia, anorexia, epilepsy and treating Parkinson’s disease. There are videos online of people who suffer from the tremors from Parkinson’s disease who smoke weed and within minutes they visibly have more control of their body. Recently marijuana was even found to help with opiate withdrawals and ADHD. There are many families that are having to relocate their families to other states to simply have access to the medical marijuana that they need. Marijuana is a lot safer to treat chronic pain over the alternative of opioids. Marijuana hasn’t been proven to be addictive and you can’t overdose on it, whereas our treatment with opioids does both. Early research has shown that marijuana helps stop cancer from spreading and may even help kill cancer cells. Many people smoke weed who is going through chemotherapy to help relieve nausea and stimulate their appetite. Other research has also shown that marijuana can slow down the spread of Alzheimer’s disease. Cannabis has also been allowed to treat PTSD in some states which largely helps veterans who are still suffering from their experiences from war. The extracts cannabidiol (CBD) and tetrahydrocannabivarin (THCV) found in cannabis have been valuable in treating seizures, anxiety, psychosis, and addiction. While THC has been found effective in treating multiple sclerosis and AIDS (Weber and Hoffman, 2010). Medical Marijuana is available in many forms (e.g., smoke, ingest, vaporize), but under federal law, physicians are unable to legally prescribe herbal marijuana. If a physician supports herbal marijuana, they may make a request to do so with documentation – justifying the medicinal use. The patient may then acquire cannabis from their state from approved facilities
