Benefits Of Living In Negaunee

Decent Essays
In many ways I am glad that I grew up in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. Negaunee is a town of 4,600 and everyone knows each others names and business. It is easy to get a label and hard to get rid of one. There are many downfalls of growing up in a small town, such as lack of diversity, opportunity and privacy as well as extremely cold, long winters. I think that the benefits are different for everyone. Some people look at the beautiful land we live in and are greatful for Lake Superior and trees that surround the U.P. and choose to never leave, others, such as myself, are greatful for the landscape and beauty that I grew up with, but am itching to see what else is out there.

Living in Negaunee has taught me many things. I´ve learned

Florida is a land of sun palm trees and sand. Florida being a southern state with sweet tea, Publix, and Disney just a few hours away, had many perks. I had never thought of what it might be like to grow up in a northern area, or just even outside of Florida. Up until my 14th summer I had always assumed everyone lived the same way I did. It had all started when I got accepted to a summer program in Washington D.C to attend a medical forum.…

strengths of having a community like the Midwest would include an internal drive for all of its community members to succeed and thrive around themselves and a greater connection or a sense of place to where they will feel at ease. However, some consequences of having a close, small community like the Midwest would include a sense of indifference inside the community which would eventually drive people insane if every citizen were to general agreement with one another; some people would be want to seclude themselves out of their communities if they did not approve of the concurrence of the Midwest…

For the next five years I lived in White Plains, New York and living there was unique, in that owning a vehicle was obsolete. I was able to walk to the store, the park and to school. The ability to walk everywhere gave my the opportunity to build relationships with my whole community and to many, it may come as surprise that even with living in a big city most of the people living within it knew each other. Even though I come from a culturally distinct country and lived in the city that never sleeps I can only call Baltimore, Maryland my home. Living in Baltimore, has had a big impact on my life because it has shaped my identity and personality.…

Sitting on my porch I open my weekly copy of the Minnesota Daily. “Three Year Anniversary of West Egg Mogul’s Death”, it reads to me. I let my paper fall to my lap and I figure that perhaps that it is why the day resonates such deep feelings of woe. Shakily I decide to continue reading the article. “...shot on an afternoon in his lavish backyard...September 1922...a murder-suicide...”.…

Elmore, Ohio, a quaint little farm town about an hour away from Sylvania, is where I was born, and raised till I was about four. Elmore was somewhat different form Sylvania. Everyone knew each other and looked out for each other no matter what, they were there for you. They were an extended family and wanted the absolute best for everyone, and I think those are some of the biggest things that differ from Elmore to sylvania that also helped shape who I am as a person. You wouldn't expect anything different from one person to the next, but I always seemed to be different in one way or another no matter where I went.…

Over time, as I get older, I can see the similarities and differences between each place. Even though Michigan and California do have similarities I feel that they have more differences. One of those major differences between the two places would be the weather.…

In downtown Birmingham, the University of Alabama at Birmingham thrives, offering jobs and learning experiences to all. Although it is mainly known for its medical fields, UAB offers degrees in various fields such as business, education, and engineering. Also, with more than twenty-three thousand employees, UAB is the largest employer in the state of Alabama, accounting for one out of every thirty-one jobs. UAB offers numerous clubs, organizations, and recreational activities for students. Although all of these are wonderful features, the three aspects of a college that most affect my choice are location, degrees offered, and the amount of scholarship money I would receive if I were to attend. Having grown up in rural Alabama with all of my friends and family in close proximity, I cannot even imagine moving far away to a college and seldomly visiting home.…

The literal foundation to any life is where you choose to set yourself up at. This decision has many different externalities. Will you have good neighbors, is the school that your kids will be going to be good enough to get them ready for life, and most importantly is the community as a whole good. These simple questions are things every parent has to take into account because there will always be tradeoffs. My parents decided to move from rural kentucky to a similarly rural indiana.…

Mifflinburg, Pennsylvania, home to roughly 3,500 people including myself. This town can be described by the frequently said phrase, “everyone knows everyone”. With most small towns I always complained that there was nothing to do, but something about Mifflinburg still draws in people from all over. During December we have a Christkindl Market, where many people show off their talents with carvings, crafts, candles, and festive food. I have gone to this market for as many years as I can remember and it is something the town as a whole looks forward to.…

hank you, Natalie for your view on this growing matter. I too, can argue for either side after reviewing both articles. It is true that people have always felt entitlement to living the dream. With this dream, people are wanting to live lavishly and especially in a location of high desire. Take California for example, in certain areas such as Los Angeles, Huntington Beach, Laguna Beach, or even Orange County, you can see the high demand of people wanting to live their lives out there.…
