There are two facts that one must come to realize when it comes to the donation or selling of organs. First, there are over six-thousand people waiting for viable organs in the United States and Second, there are over three-thousand people a year getting their much-needed organs in other countries without a waiting list. The only difference is in other countries they are getting their organs via the black market. The non-legalization of buying and selling organs cause the black-market sales to increase and lives lost because there are people and companies that will forge documents for the purchasing of non-relative organs. These illegally gotten organs are not tested which can cause the body to reject the donation and …show more content…
Iran pays their donors a fixed compensation of twelve-hundred dollars plus health insurance for one year after the surgery but limited only to the complications from the surgery (McAndrews., Butt., Block, 2016). People state that this is their body and that they should be able to sell their own body parts they say, “My body, my choice.” (Gregory. 2011). There are people that state if organ sales were allowed that it would exploit humans and reduce people to objects (Mackellar, 2014). Women are allowed every day to sell parts of their bodies to anyone who is willing to buy, even to clinics. Even men can sell a piece of them for a good chunk of cash. Yet, it is argued this is because it's not for sustaining a life, but making a whole new life (McAndrews, Butt, 2016). One fight is for the legalization of organ sales and honestly, it is a good and fundamental right. If there is a willingness of the seller, then it should not be considered exploration and we should permit the willing seller to sell, the same way that we allow the un-willing to keep their organs (Lawlor. 2014). There are other ways to permit sales without actual money exchanging hands: tuition vouchers, retirement contributions, cover donor/vendor cost and ultimately cover the funeral expenses for those who are selling at death (Shaw, Bell, N.D.). There are some big advantages for the selling of organs …show more content…
There are positives for selling organs like no waiting list, economic gain, reducing the illegal activity of black market sales. There are also negatives as well: reducing people to objects, people dying or becoming ill due to poor medical conditions of both giving and receiving untested organs and finally donors (or sellers) being treated poorly and obtaining less than what was promised at the time of donation. If there was a way that the United States could work with Iran and make a new procedure that would be beneficial to both the buyer and seller without breaching the four ethical categories, which being: 1. Forcing poor/vulnerable people to donate (i.e.: going to villages where poor and famished people live who would be desperate for the income) 2. Compiling people to donate by undermining autonomy (once again focusing on those who are poor and uneducated) 3. Crowding out intrinsic motivation (Dollars will destroy altruism) and finally 4. It will degrade personal dignity (Shaw. Bell. ND). Exploitation of the ignorant, poor and desperate is the direct cause of procuring organs illegally for the cause of doing like saving procedures. If there are legal measures in place that allow people to buy and sell their extra organs, it will diminish the need for black marketing,
