Leaving Meat, Living Healthy Most of people believe that human cannot get enough nutrition without meat, and meat is the best source to get iron. In fact, the situation is opposite “Meat and cheese may be as bad as smoking” (Wu, 2014, para1); eating meat can cause more bad effects than benefits. On the one hand, animals have the same right as human; however, there are thousands of animals been killed every year because of the profit of the meat products. On the other hand, food additives in the meat product are not good for human. People should not eat meat in order to pay more respect to animals, to avoid absorbing less hormones they use, and to look for better substitute products of meat. A huge number of animals are locked in a single compartment, where they can barely move; because of the lack of living space, animals can only stand in the compartment without any other normal living activities like walk or run. Animals in these living places are tend to become offensive as they attack each other in order to get more space, and these behaviors will make animals get hurt. In order to reduce the stresses of animals that caused by the poor living place, people use some painful mutilations to restrain the animals, like cutting off the horns of cattle. In addition, American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (2015) lists many acts of cruelty to animals. For example, goose liver, which is the engorged liver of a duck or goose, is one of the most expensive foods in the world. For example, vegetables are a great way to get nutrition; they include all nutrition that meat product have, “Becoming a vegetarian” by the Harvard Health Publications (2009) indicated that vegetarians’ diet is healthy and vegetable can provide all nutrition that people need. In addition, the people who do not eat meat have 19% lower risk of heart attack. Vegetarianism can help people reduce the risk of diseases (Harvard health publications, 2009). On the other hand, people commonly believe that red meat is the best source of iron. In fact, dried beans and dark green leafy vegetable are really good sources of iron. When people eat foods, which contain vitamin C, the aforementioned nutrient increases the absorption of iron. Furthermore, the absorption of iron for vegetarians is about 1.8 times higher than the people who eat meat (Mangels, 2015). From all information that has been provided above it is clear that vegetables might be a more beneficial source of nutrition than meat.
