I had never gone through such an impactful change in my life since my parents divorced when I was young and my life had been favorably consistent up to this point. Though it was difficult, I am glad I went through this experience. It made me a better student and a harder worker. The courses in public school were different than what I had come to know and, suffice to say, much more difficult. I was forced to push myself to entirely new limits, making myself work harder than I ever had before.…

Why I decided to go back to school? My reason to go back to school probably could be the same as others, but I decided to go back to school to have a better life for myself. In addition, to my reason of wanting to go back to school was also because I wanted to be able to advance in my current job or even become a court administrator. The decision came to my mind when I was sitting in the living room watching a television program. It was commercial for one of the health colleges where some students were giving testimony of the reasons they went to that particular college and graduated.…

Every semester I ask myself the same three questions and the longer I have been pursuing post secondary the more I think about the costs of post-secondary in comparison to the benefits of my degree. I work part time at Bed Bath and Beyond to help my parents pay rent and keep food on the table so every time I look at class registration I always artistically stack my classes like Greek columns to grab as many hours as I can at work. My father always says that you can’t do anything without money and it’s the truth you can’t, and it shames me because the academic route I decided to take isn’t known for the Steve Jobs of the world but rather the eco-terrorists and political upstarts. Public policy has always been my passion because of the social…

Graduating high school and entering college is a monumental step coming from a family where no one has ever been to college. For me, I was not falling into that category. College was something I did not consider throughout my time in high school.…

This semester has been a very difficult, stressful, and challenging for me . High School can not compare the amount of stress I had to face in this fall semester at Hostos Community College. However, it is like that with many other students because making a transition is frightening and many of us find a way to run away from it. Everything in life is a challenge and it is scary as well, but for those who want to study it all starts of with college. It took me more than words to actually realize the reality that I am actually living right at this very moment because, I was not expecting so many things to fall apart, but somehow becoming whole again.…
