Ever since the mid 1990’s, our produce and at least 60% of the U.S. processed foods have been modified genetically. Genetically Modified Organisms also known as GMO is the process of extracting genes from the DNA of once species and coercing it into the genes of another species. Genetic engineering has a been a successful technology but still doesn’t grant a vigorous impression to everyone among the world. Many ponder whether it will be beneficial forever or if we are only digging up our own graves. GMO thrives in avoiding food shortages, reduces pesticide and herbicide, reduces crop damages from extreme weather conditions, extends shelf life, and even supplies a high content of needed nutrients! Although GMO has given an abundance of benefits, people panic and worry without any remarkable evidence that GMO triggers an allergy in humans, will cause a new disease outbreak, and will lower the level of biodiversity significantly. The cons are worries and possibilities whereas the pros are facts. Scientist for GMO have taken into account the preoccupations of people against GMO. People against GMO have expressed a concern about spraying pests with toxic fumes, they believe the level of biodiversity will not only drop but that the toxic fumes sprayed among the crops will surface new diseases as we consume it.
