When you understand how to be a great follower, in your career, you have the ability to learn from the leader such as how they lead, take action, make decisions, and handle situations, etc. Through school and my previous jobs, the act of following offers great benefits because I have been able to learn from my leaders mistakes and successes. Furthermore, being a follower means that I’ve had a chance to focus on the job and my skill set rather than having to lead and demonstrate. A great example of how followership is an important leadership skill is from the movie Saving Private Ryan. Captain Miller (played by Tom Hanks) accepts the assignment to find Ryan.
