Benefits Of Daycare Essay

Deciding if it is best to send a child to daycare is a very stressful situation for parents. They after all only want what is best for their child. But many parents are unsure about whether or not daycare will damage their child in any way. The answer, much to the relief of many parents who have no other choice, is that daycare can mold children that are more cognitively and socially competent than those raised solely by the parents at home. It has also been shown that children put in early daycare are not n at risk for insecure attachments ( ). Moreover, the benefits of childcare also extend to the parents themselves. When dropping off or picking up a child at daycare parents will often chat for a few minutes with other parents. These few minutes are extremely beneficial to parents because it allows them to build social capital or a system of social ties that have been linked to a myriad of health benefits ( ). These interactions often lead to lasting friendships outside of the daycare between the parents. With outings for coffee or shopping these parents built strong friendships that as they say turn into “family” ( ). These feeling of social support significantly reduce stress for parents. Which in turn leads to lower rates of depression and better financial status among parents. This new social network also opens a wealth of resources for parents such as “domestic abuse counseling, museum discounts, and referrals to many other resources” ( ). Overall, there are many benefits to allowing a child to attend a daycare from the child receiving a head start socially and academically to parents building friendships and mental health. The daycare does however need to be of high quality to ensure the child is stimulated and cared for
