I believe Christopher Columbus should not be the name of the holiday. Columbus made a significant discover by uncovering the western hemisphere of the Earth. However, in the process he slaughtered helpless human-beings for his own selfish need for wealth. According to Howard Zinn’s novel, these Indians were friendly and inviting, while Columbus took advantage for his benefit. So, by celebrating Columbus day, Christopher Columbus is getting exactly what he wanted in the first place, is fame. Plus, he never really discovered America, so why should it be celebrated in this country.
I have learned that Christopher Columbus is not the real hero that discovered our nation today. Instead, our country has fed us lies to cover up the true tragedies
