A mother’s care is centered on the needs of her child. She knows them better than anyone and is best suited to provide her children with the “affection and attention they need” (Lowry, Working Mothers Are Harming the Family 5). Some mothers choose to work while others have to. In this case, daycare may be a necessity. It is important to remember that day care workers cannot provide the nurture, care, or discipline that a mother can. In a study conducted by the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD), it is reported that these children tend to be associated with qualities such as “gets in lots of fights,” “cruelty,” “explosive behavior,” … “demands a lot of attention” (Lowry, Working Mothers Are Harming the Family 2). There is also an increase in illness amongst children in daycare. These included, but are not limited to, “acute respiratory illness, ear infections, diarrhea, and insecure attachment to their mothers” (Lowry, Bring back the stay-at-home-mom 1). For these reasons, a mother should be cautious in her decision to place her child in a daycare facility. She should research and visit the facility before enrolling her child so as to have a clear understanding of the daycare’s policies, procedures and
