You make some great points. Personally I am more of a libertarian when it comes to drugs, considering I think what you do on your own time is yours to do with. However, I do not feel drug tests are an invasion of privacy considering most employers are upfront about the requirement of being drug free as a condition of employment for whatever reason the employer might have.
I have worked at a couple manufacturing plants that required pre-employment drug testing, random drug test, and required drug testing after being hurt or caused property damage while on the job. In some of the plants I worked in the company would work with the employee by retaining their job as long as the participated in an outpatient rehab and had a clean drug test. Ultimately,
