Improved Essays
I had originally planned on just becoming a member of the APTA so I could get the easy points for my portfolio. After going to the website and actually looking it over, I think I that there a quite a few things that will actually be beneficial in the years to come. Over the next 3 years, the benefits of being a member of the APTA, will definitely outweigh the cost. For one, I feel that being able to get involved

I want to have the experience for a couple of reasons, some more selfish than others. For one I do feel that I have been very blessed in my life. I was able to get a good education and never have to worry about too much in life, and for that reason I feel that it is my duty to give back to my community and I believe that AmeriCorps is a great way to do that. Forgotten about by the Federal Government for a while now, is long-term care facilities. Even though the government enforced Medicare, certain restrictions still reside on Medicare that do not allow most people to use these types of resources to pay for their living in a long-term care facility. Because Medicare offers to individuals 65 years and older, long-term care services covered by Medicare for the health protection of persons age 65 and older are a necessity. Since Medicaid covers long-term care services for very low-income individuals, Medicare should also provide coverage for long-term care facilities for the older persons of age 65 and older. While not suggesting that the Federal government should just loan millions of dollars for…

Joining the New Visions program was one of the wisest decisions I have made. When nurses that I shadow at Unity Hospital express how jealous they are that they didn’t have a program like this when they were in high school, it reminds me to take advantage of this opportunity that not every student receives. I am confident that when I graduate college, I will be able to recollect this program, and how it led me to be successful. I will reminisce about the long hours dedicated to each college-level assignment in determination to receive a grade in the high 90’s, or that moment when I witnessed a five pound baby be born from a cesarean delivery, or even when I stood next to the operating table observing a total knee replacement surgery, while the surgeon and nurses took the time to teach me about what they were doing--an opportunity that not even college nursing students were able to see. Every assignment I completed, conversation I had, and person I met, has transformed me into a more educated and open minded student.…

WHY I WANT TO JOIN THE HONORS PROGRAM Alighting from a Boeing 747 jetliner on the JFK tarmac on Thursday evening, April 28, 2016, I walked into what could be called a new page in my life story—a new start. That was my first time on this side of the hemisphere. With little money, zero friends, one close relative and little to hold on to, I found myself leaning on only a thread of asset – my mind. Knowing this, I vowed to keep this God given asset alive and growing with all my soul and might, and what better way to do this than to identify with people of like passion, people who will add to me.…

I have always desired a career that will make a difference by targeting populations, highlight prevention methods, and one that will be a challenge. Prior to obtaining my MPH, I had the opportunity to intern with the Georgia Department of Public Health (GDPH) in the Environmental Health Branch program called the Chemical Hazards Program (CHP). I assisted the CHP staff by creating and maintaining a database from their Environmental Health Education Needs Assessment on a Superfund site investigation in relation to uranium in private well-water. The health data was then evaluated, recommendations were made, and, as a result, I co-authored the Environmental Health Education Needs Assessment Report which entailed details of the project/study.…
