Last night I had the opportunity to attend the ASME meeting. This was my first professional society meeting, and I was sure glad I attended it. This meeting really opened my eyes, it showed me all of the cool opportunities/ events throughout the year, and it showed me the importance of involvement. The American Society Of Mechanical Engineers group offers a variety of events throughout the year, in order to get their group members involved. Summary of Activities Outside of our meeting on Sunday October 8th, I spent an hour looking up registration letters online, just to see what other examples are available. I completed the letter and I believe it’s perfect. I can’t wait for everyone to see it also.…

The event I decided to attend was the presentation “Dreamers after DACA” by Maria Belen Sisa. The main reason I decided to attend this presentation was mainly due to the fact that the DACA situation is something I am actively involved in and hearing stories of individuals under this program gives me insight as to what is currently happening to them after the program was ended. Sisa also discussed ways to get involved and take action to demand a clean Dream Act which was another factor as to why I attended. This event relates to the course’s theme because it discussed the issue of ethnicity and ethnic groups in education and employment.…

I thoroughly enjoyed hearing about the experiences of students from different backgrounds that were all Dreamers. I'd be lying if I said I didn't get emotional hearing about the many times medical…

An example of an outreach effort that I conducted to an unreached group at the University of Maine was one focused on Greek Life students. I first had a conversation with the IV staff Jon Kennerson about how I would be speaking at our regions Greek getaway later in the semester and I would love to try to get some Greek students from Maine to be able to attend. We talked about ideas I had about reaching the students, a goal for how many I would like to ideally brign to the…
