Benefit Of Year Round School

According to the National Summer Learning Association, students on a traditional school calendar will typically score lower on a test that was taken at the end of summer break than on the same test taken at the end of the school year. Some people believe that year round school schedules are very disadvantageous but actually year-round schooling is very advantageous. Therefore students at Shattuck should have a year round schooling schedule. A few reasons for this is that there are shorter and more frequent breaks, there are more opportunities for vacations and there is a more balanced school schedule.

First of all there are shorter breaks which are very beneficial to students. Shorter breaks make sure that there is little to no “summer slide”

Families can go on vacations in the beginning of September instead of during the summer (Why students may benefit from year-round schooling). Having different times for vacations gives children more opportunities to see different places at different times in the year without having to miss school. Also, families can travel or see relatives more often (Wake County parents say year-round schooling is being forced on them). Traveling is good for children because it gives them more learning opportunities. Lastly, there is more flexibility for when vacations are planned (Year-round schooling has pros and cons). That is beneficial considering that this way vacations can be planned for when parents have time off of work or for when it works best for the family. This point of view makes sense because people believe that kids are stuck in school with no break time and therefore teachers are stuck in school as well. This view is inaccurate by reason being that students have the same amount of time in and out of school as a traditional school schedule. A piece of evidence to prove this reason is that students who go to year-round school go to school for 180 days- the same as a child from a traditional school. The only difference is that there are more breaks in a year round school than in a traditional school.

In conclusion, a year round school schedule has many benefits. Some may argue that year round schooling has no advantages. However, with a year round school schedule there are more frequent breaks which benefits students and teachers greatly, more time for vacations and a more balanced school schedule. Having a traditional school schedule is hurting students both mentally and school wise. Is having a traditional school schedule as beneficial as we think it

Just like explained in Year Round Schooling offers Benefits Over A Traditional Calendar, “Balanced year-round calendar provides a logical pacing of instructions, followed by a regular break” (Bullinger, 2008). The schools will need more money to pay for the bills and pay the teachers as explained in Extending-Time Schools Benefit Students, “They shift usage of grants, or apply for new money that can be used in a variety of ways” (Davis, 2008). A benefit for the students is that their education isn’t interrupted (Bullinger, 2008) according to Year Round Schooling Offers Benefits Over a Traditional Calendar, “Year round schooling enhances learning because the learning is not interrupted by a long summer break” (Bullinger,…

Should we have year-round school? Year-round school should be implemented in our school district. Three main reasons why I think there should be year round school is that, for one, it would help prevent long breaks that could potentially weaken students academically, and after the break, it would take a while to review. Secondly, the 9 month calendar we currently use was originally made based around when kids would go home and work on farms, but now, this isn’t a common practice. Lastly, teachers and students would benefit mentally from breaks spread out all throughout the year.…

It has been shown that schools with year round education have higher annual attendance rates in comparison to schools with a typical schedule (DeNisco, “Year-round schooling gains popularity.”). This leads to better continuity with learning and will result in minimal education gaps. For Beecher Community School District, switching to a balanced calendar meant not just higher, but doubled reading and writing scores for standardized testing in grades third to sixth (DeNisco, “Year-round schooling gains popularity.”). Standardized testing can help us determine an average skill level for a school district or even an entire state, allowing for us to have the ability to grant funding for where it will be put to best use. This goes to show that a year-round education calendar can work if the students and faculty agree to be out of their comfort zones for a…

Children benefit from year round school because they are not in a hurry to cram everything they need to know for that year in just short nine to ten months. Teachers can slow their speed and actually teach students everything they need to know not just what they need for a test, which seems to be regular in many schools. Students will not forget the education that was taught, for they will not have summer vacation time to forget about school and what they learned from it. Cooper had done experiments on children loosing education while on summer break and his results are stunning, and cooper commented that “most students lose about two months of grade level equivalency in mathematical computation skills over the summer months”…
