Benedict Arnold: A Traitor In The American Revolution

A once very successful war hero turns to treason, for nothing else but money. That is Benedict Arnold a man who was an American General in the American Revolution. He lived a lavish lifestyle of a somewhat high ranking General. This was still not enough for Arnold though, but why would he betray the Continental Army like that. To know this you will need to learn more about Benedict Arnold.

January 14, 1741, Norwich, CT the day Benedict Arnold was born one of the greatest traitor not only in United States history but in world history, but to learn why he betrayed the United States you need to know a little more about Benedict Arnold. Benedict Arnold served as an apprentice at a young age but he left to join the Militia to fight in the French Indian War from (1754-1763). He later married Margret Mansfield in 1767. Later in 1775 Arnold’s wife died and in that same year Benedict Arnold enlisted in the Continental Army. Soon after Arnold joins the Continental Army, he was wounded in battle on December 31st of 1775. He left the army for a short period of time as his wound recovered in 1776. He then came back later in 1776 to fight again.

Yet this did not help him with his already bad financial situation at hand. Arnold's treason did not go unnoticed.He was figured out to be a traitor, . General Washington removed Arnold from every Military record and reported him as a traitor. Arnold was going to receive £20000 ( nearly 3 million dollars today) for the plans to West Point, Arnold was later only paid £6000 for this. The British still lost at West Point but Arnold was accepted into the British Army. He was a Brigadier General, he led attacks against the colonies of Virginia and Connecticut. He only received around £360 a year in this position not the money that the British had
