When she has routine blood tests done on the baby she finds out that the baby has Down syndrome. The woman has a successful life with a career and family. She is not completely comfortable with the idea of abortion so she consults a professor who has their degree in evolutionary biology. This professor believes in doing whatever it takes to minimize human suffering and furthering human potential. Based on this professors beliefs, he recommends the woman have an abortion.
The fact that this baby will be born with a physical defect makes the decision to abort, or not, an ethical decision. There are two ways to resolve this situation. First, a person can give birth to the baby with Down syndrome and keep it. The other option is to give birth and then give the baby up for adoption. Not aborting the baby is the only ethical option.

The bible also tells us that we are fearfully and wonderfully made (Psalm 139:14). One of those consequences could the mother having to change her lifestyle in order to raise the baby. Babies are expensive and take a person’s constant attention and love. Raising a baby is hard enough, but raising a baby with Down syndrome would be even harder. A baby with Down syndrome is going to take even more care and money. Another unintended consequence could be the fact that society would have to pay more for that child’s education, because of its special needs.
