Ben Roethlisberger's Influence On Footballs

When you think of an NFL quarterback, one might assume that all quarterbacks were adept at football their entire life. In most instances that may be true, but for Ben Roethlisberger his chance to shine came almost never came to be. However, we know his chance came otherwise I wouldn’t be here writing about him. In this essay we will take a look at the legacy Roethlisberger has made for himself. All stories have a beginning and ours starts on March 2, 1982 in Lima, Ohio. Roethlisberger was raised in Findlay, Ohio all the way up until his graduation from high school. Roethlisberger excelled at high school sports, but in football the only success he found was playing as wideout and not quarterback. It wasn’t until his senior year, after the former number one quarterback had graduated that Roethlisberger got his chance to start as quarterback. Roethlisberger took complete advantage of his opportunity and threw for state records having 4,041 yards and 54 touchdowns in his only season as quarterback. …show more content…
He was offered a scholarship at Ohio State, but not for a quarterback position. After much consideration, Roethlisberger chose Miami University of Oxford, Ohio. Miami offered the best chance at starting quarterback and it was here where Roethlisberger’s career really began to take off. After his stint was over at Miami, Roethlisberger had accumulated nearly 11,000 yards along with 84 touchdowns in just three years. Roethlisberger then entered into the 2004 NFL Draft along with other greats such as Eli Manning and Philip Rivers.
