Ben Carson, born Benjamin Solomon Carson, is currently a pediatric neurosurgeon, amongst numerous other titles. He has written his own books, midst them is Gifted Hands: The Ben Carson Story. Ben Carson’s childhood was strenuous, nonetheless his mother pushing him, an improvement in his grades and his outstanding surgical skills made him an influential person in the field of health care. Coming from a broken home somehow Benjamin Carson found a way to assemble it all together. He went from the bottom of the class to the top. Even though he resented what his mother had made him accomplish before he could go play, he found himself enjoying it more every day, realizing it was more enjoyable to apply his imagination than to watch television (Ben Carson). Benjamin had always had an interest in science, particularly the brain (Worlds Biography). Dreaming of what he would soon become helped him move through the hardships of poverty and graduate as an honors student from high school. He became the first doctor to perform surgery on a fetus, as well as discovering an advanced method on treating brain stem tumors. Carson successfully separated twins who were joined at the top of the head. Likewise, Benjamin went on to detach adult craniopagus twins. This type of surgery on adults has never been attempted, for the reason that death is usually the outcome (Worlds Biography). Perhaps, this was the biggest medical obstacle Carson has ever taken on. The craniopagus twins later went on to pass away during surgery. Carson told the press that what these twins contributed to science would live far beyond what they did (Worlds Biography). He takes dangerous and hopeless surgeries and puts faith in to what a few doctors would seem
