Since the beginning of our country, Elections have been primarily dominated by the traditional politician. As time goes on, change is expected, but even the most forward thinking person could not have prepared for what is taking place at this moment. Never before has there been a presidential race that shows the traditional politician becoming a political outcast. With the variety of the non-traditional candidates, the traditional politician almost seems counter-culture. Ben Carson was not always the man we know today, he was once declared the dumbest person in the world by a classmate. Carson with an uncontrollable temper was controlled by his mother, who channeled his anger into studying and made him and his siblings write book reports in turn, that fueled his passion for learning. He went back to school and the kid once regarded as “The Dumbest Person in the World”, identified rock samples which put that name to rest and established him as academically elite. He became a pediatric neurosurgeon who did innovative things. He separated child Siamese twins, and he also separated adult Siamese twins. Those seem like quite a feat for the “Dumbest Person in the World”. He did what no one thought he could, but people feel the same way once again as he is running for President and he is not a politician. He like Trump has his own perspective of America and is outspoken on the many niches of the country. For example, in his book One Nation: What We Can All Do to Save America's Future, Carson feels that progress in America can be made if everybody was on the same page and worked together(2). Carson also says in that book, that progress also can be made if Americans use common sense(3). Carson is looking to capitalize on his ability to overcome, and he is also looking to use his beliefs to help him attain presidency. He has the chance to overcome one more time, and this time it is to be the next
