This is a story of a pediatric neurosurgeon name Ben Carson his brother Curtis and her mother Sonya. Sonya Carson is mother of ben and Curtis. In starting of the book, they describe about his husband. Sonya Carson get married at the age of 13 and after that they have two children and they lived in Detroit but because of some reason ben daddy left his family and never come back. This is the hardest time for ben and his brother to see future without his father. He remembers how they used to play with his father on holidays his father used to work in Cadillac manufacturing company in Detroit. It was the hardest time for the family. So, one time ben get zero on his math quiz and that was the most embracing moment for his life because they must announce their mark in front of whole class. One day when ben was reading a book at home he was not able to read words very clearly so he asked his mom to read and he had also the same problem at school he was not able to see clearly on board. So, they get their first spectacles. And that was the turning point of his life. After that they have improved their grads and they started doing better. When ben was a eight year old her mother used to take care for his study and her mother make a rule they have to started reading a two book in a week and after reading the book they have to write the summary on that two book. And after that they became a most intelligent student in their high school. And they know all the answer. Ben and his brother have many other problem in their life. All other student in the school used to make fun of ben because of his clothe he used to wear. Ben also complain about his cloths to her mother but she cannot afford a new cloth because they are poor. And because of racism they are not allowed to play basketball or any other game with white children. They have
