The green, blue, red, yellow, and white colored buildings surrounded me as I learned how to be me. The slim faces, blonde hair, and tall bodies forced me to embrace my culture and love it. My family that lives there caused me to say that Zamosc is my second home. When all of my family in Poland is together there is such a great sense of acceptance, belonging, and love. The people in this little town encourage me to be myself and try new things. Four very diverse humans live in Zamosc that I call family; Aunt Mariola, Uncle Peter, Diana, and Sara. Trying to communicate with each other sometimes caused us to laugh until we had no breath left. I remember that we had taken a trip down south of Europe to six different countries. Our last day of our final stop, my Uncle proposed the idea of traveling home in just one day. Huge smiles crossed our face as we let out loud sounds of laughter before saying “Let’s do it!”. The migrant experience engenders growth and cultivation of the human identity, however the aspects of cultural belonging and the emotional remonstrance affiliated with adaptation, assimilation and personal transfiguration are concomitant to the journey. Peter Skrzynecki's poems ‘Postcard’ and ‘Feliks Skrzynecki’ from his acclaimed ‘Immigrant Chronicle’ capture the aspects associated with the migrant experience in vivid detail, his abstract use of motifs, personification and metaphors explicitly mirroring these concepts, the incongruent and intrinsic nature of human response to belonging and change prominent in the world of the persona. The migratory experience illuminated within ‘Postcard’ and ‘Feliks Skrzynecki’ epitomises the struggles of…

For two weeks, I stayed in Charleston, South Carolina. I didn’t know much about the place, except that I referred to it as an army town because that’s where my sister and her husband, who was in the military, stayed. I was reluctant to go, but Charleston had a lot to offer me; a new change of pace and some new scenery was much more satisfying than spending the two weeks stuck in Iowa doing the same old routine. The weather was mystical in Charleston.…
