Well, in conclusion, I had different reactions to different people. I know that for North Americans awkward moments are something that they try to avoid, and it is a bit difficult to handle. But also was a good exercise for me, trying to understand that the language barrier is not something that is complicated for the person that can not or is not speaking the language of the country where you are living but also for people that cannot speak your language, could be frustrating or challenging for…

“Shes coming back right?” a baffled 7 year old asks in response to the appalling news of her mother’s death. A vibrant imagination is accompanied by a crushing pain of reality that trails behind it ; I discovered this when I heard the words “no” . 10 years later, that conversation lingers in my head and holds not a cacophonous nor euphonious sound, but instead holds the neutral tone of reality, an alarm . As routine , at 6a.m., I hear a melodious alarm followed by the pitter-patter of my aunt who is getting ready for work.…

    Being An Outsider Essay

To begin with, being considered an outsider will hinder one’s participation within their community. By keeping them in the middle or below class, having a great lack of authority given to them, and consistently being discriminated against, which would not only affect their participation but lead to them not even wanting to be within that community anymore. Being an outsider by means of: economic class, ethnicity, race, religion, authority, and parenthood would only keep their participation rates supremely low if not none at all. Firstly, the verbal and physical abuse on the “outsider” group such as the Roma in “Europe’s Unwanted People” and the poor african american’s in the “Other Wes Moore”, did nothing but make them want to have nothing to do with their community and participation involving it.…

Halloween comes across as a huge cultural shock for individuals who are newly immigrated into the United States. For my parents, coming from Albania, Halloween is something completely out of the ordinary, something that would have never been allowed under Albania’s communist regime. I was excited, I was only six years old, but I knew what I wanted to be; Batman. Except, my mom did not get me what I wished for, she ended up getting me a Robin Hood costume instead.…

People have always been interested in the idea of finding out about personal identity, what makes you the same person as you were when you were five and what will make you the same person when you are eighty. Derek Parfit summed up this idea by saying “Whatever happens between now and any future time, either I shall still exist, or I shall not. Any future experience will either be my experience, or it will not.” (Parfit- 186), which is what personal identity looks into. This essay will discuss whether personal identity is a matter of physical or psychological continuity, taking into account the famous ideas of philosophers such as John Locke, Derek Parfit and Bernard Williams.…
