Page 138-139 talks about her being a little kid wanting things that she wasn't allowed to have because her mother would tell her these things were bad. Her mother would tell those stuff because she was poor and couldn't afford to buy it for her. One of the quotes I really want to focus is “I learned that my inner life was more peaceful if I did not think about money or allow myself to indulge in a fantasy If I did not think about money or allow myself to indulge in a fantasy or desire. I learned the art of sublimation and repression. I learned it was better to make do with acceptable material desires than to articulate the unacceptable.” That quote stood out to me the most because I can sometimes relate to her. Sometimes you want the newest sneakers or the newest phone but your mom would say no mostly because they don't want to spend money but sometimes they can't afford. She also feels belittle and had to hide her desire all the time, What hooks is trying to say is that since she is a part of the lower class she has to know she belongs at the bottom.
