Bell County Sheriff-Personal Narrative

As a fifty-four year old senior, there have been many times that I have been reminded of my age, none so glaring as when I was asked to condense those years into 3 paragraphs. I was born on October 12th, 1962, right between the Bay of Pigs incident and President John F. Kennedy’s assassination. I was born on Hamilton Air Force Base in California, a place which no longer exists. I wonder how many people can appreciate that. Over the years I have heard people say, you can’t go home, or it’s not like you remember. Well I truly can’t go home because it is nothing but memories now. I was very lucky as a kid. My dad was in the Air Force so we had to move a lot. It nothing I fully appreciated then, but in hindsight it was nice. My mom was From Scotland so we got to visit a lot of family in Scotland and England and then when he went to Vietnam, we moved to and lived with my Aunt and Uncle in Australia.
One would think that 18 years of constant moving would have soured me towards travel, but that would be wrong. Two weeks after

While I was waiting for a slot to open up, I went into the Air Force Active Reserve as a Target Intelligence Analyst and at the same time I joined the Bell County Sheriff’s Office, working in the “old” old Jail, built in the early 1900’s. In 1996 I received 60 stiches cause by inmates during a jail escape. Unluckily for them I still was able to remember something that had happened early in the evening and that information was instrumental in them getting captured down in Houston. During that two year waiting period I also did Logging down in east Texas, where I almost completely cut of my big toe with a chainsaw, I installed carpet for 2 months till I stabbed myself in the hand with a carpet knife, I framed houses for three months until I shot myself in the knee with a nail gun. I was quite relieved when I got my orders to go back into the Air Force where it was

During the course of life, every person will experience many events, but there are a select few of those events that transcend the others. Those events can fall into one of two categories, either traumatic or joyous occasions, but none the less memorable. Of those extraordinary events, there are only one or two that every small and seemingly useless detail can be remembered for. In the course of my short life, I have been able to experience two such events, but, unfortunately, both have been negative situations. While I have never visited New York City, I, like many American’s remember where they were on September 11th, 2001, but unlike most outside of the Gulf Coast area, I remember where I was when Hurricane Ivan made landfall.…

You know how people say they can remember exactly what they were doing the day 9/11 happened? It was such a huge event in their lives they remember every last detail, just like it happened yesterday. While I may not remember what happened the day of September 11, 2001, I do remember the day of April 30th, 2004. I was seven years old and in second grade. It was a Friday, and as the minutes ticked by signaling the end of the day I grew more and more excited.…

My series of rather challenging events seven years ago, when my family moved from Myanmar to the United States. I had just turned nine when my sister received news that she was accepted into UC Berkeley. My whole family was ecstatic as we prepared for our move to San Francisco. People tried to explain to me what it would be like to live on the other side of the ocean. Little did I know, San Francisco and Yangon were polar opposites - one a bustling, concrete city and the other a quiet, somber town.…

To this day, I can only remember three dates: May 30, 2000; April 18, 2017; and January 16, 2015. The first date holds great significance for my friends, family, and relatives, but to me the date is just a reminder of enhanced responsibility and older age. The second date marks the day on which my hard work on merit badges, volunteering, and my eagle scout project paid off: my eagle scout board of review date. However, the third date is the most momentous, as it marks a period of moral and psychological growth in my life. On January 16th, 2015, I observed the unfolding of an unforgettable experience, and, to this day, I continue to draw inspiration from the person at the center of the incident:…

University of Wisconsin-Madison Department of French and Italian College of Letters and Science Many people say that I am a member of the generation X, born just before the war, in a country that was right in the process of falling apart. Not long after I first saw the light of day, my country has changed several times its name, its anthem, geographical layout and national identity. I was waiting in line in the arms of my mother to get some milk, I have survived an awful authoritarian regime, but I also witnessed the building of the first democratic revolution in this region. I do not mention all of this because I like to deal with the past.…
