Smith went into further detail, and explained how she communicates regularly with people in different parts of the world. She made sure to express that sometimes it is difficult to communicate orally due to language barriers and accents. She also advised me on what phrases and expressions she strays away from when writing letters and emails with international clients. She told me that she must always be aware of the different cultural standards of whichever country she is dealing with at the moment. The Ascendant Group is the parent company of multiple businesses, and Mrs. Smith must oversee and approve the communications and marketing of all businesses under the Ascendant family tree. Smith doesn 't directly work in the plant and with the engineers, she gave me a tour of the power plant and the offices of people whom she works closely with at BELCO. Mrs. Smith said that her job doesn 't require her to visit the power plant, but she stated that she needs to be aware. Mrs. Smith explained that understanding the environment in where he works and the equipment that is being used, helps her to better market and communicate the company’s goals especially to international corporations. She explains that it’s a personal choice of hers to tour the power plant every once in a while. She says that she wouldn 't be able to effectively communicate the goals and mission of the company, if she didn’t understand how BELCO was achieving their goal of providing sustainable energy.
I was told that the energy is being produced by these two giant smoke stacks, that Mrs. Smith says reminds her of cigarettes, and they do. She points out that it is ironic that sustainable energy is being generated from two structures that look like cigarettes. I was given a hard hat, and shown around the different buildings that house the engines that generate energy. Since this is the only electricity provider in the country, some of the engines took up a significant amount of space in the buildings.
