My college search has brought me to many universities: visiting campuses, and talking to students, alumni, and faculty. While I could receive an excellent education from any of these schools, Notre Dame offers something "more. " I first noticed this something "more" through a contact I made with Kyle Cowdrick, ND class of 2015, who I have been emailing back and forth with over the last year about admissions, Notre Dame, and the college experience. I once asked him why he bothered to use his precious time to mentor me, someone he barely knew before, his answer: "It's the Irish way".…

I am willing to bet that there are many astonishing young men and women who have applied for this scholarship. I am also willing to bet there are a fair amount of applicants who meet the unwritten standards needed to receive this scholarship. I will not boast promises of outstanding grades or how this money could build my future. Instead, I will tell of my past, allowing my personality speak for itself. Growing up my parents always encouraged my siblings and me to stay true to ourselves, whether that is morally, mentally, and/or physically.…

People think I’m quirky. It’s not that I possess any eccentric talents, a unique sense of humor, or idiosyncratic mannerisms, but instead my quirkiness is a carefree, vivacious, grab life by the lapelles kind of attitude. This approach to life encourages confidence in being outside the box, daring to be different, and doing so unapologetically. Although I embody this today, this trait manifested in response to rejection and self-discovery. Growing up, I was a shy follower, conforming to the norms of my peer group.…

In such a short amount of time I have been accomplished much through school, church, and extracurricular activities. In 18 years I have lived in three different houses, attended four different schools, and have become interested in theatre arts; I have been through many, many pets and witnessed the funerals of many family members; I have attended Governors School, one of the most prestigious things for a high school student to do; and have loved every minute. It is truly crazy for a person like me to think of where they will be and what they will be doing in 15 years, the possibilities are endless, but if I needed to sit down and decided or create a plot of life I would have to start with the beginning. In the next five years of my life I see myself as a person that will grow into a greater theatrically inclined person and striving to still be better, still see the limit is nowhere in sight.…

For as long as I can remember, movies and television have been my escape. No matter what was going on in my life, I could always get lost in the fantastical adventures of Star Wars or even the mundane happenings in The Office. With each new story that I consumed, my mind created five more. For me, writing just started out as a way for me to clear all of these thought-tangents out of my head. I would keep random journals everywhere and just jot down whatever came to me throughout the day.…
