Writing a topic that we are interested and related to us is easier for us to develop the ideas on an essay; however, finding an interesting article from tons of links are hard for me, I literally went through all the links that are provided on Beachboard just to find an article that I have motivation to work on it. So, I eventually decided to pick an article named “Being the Fat Girl in a Big Fat Asian Family”. I was fascinated by this article because of a picture of Kpop idol “Girls Generation” as my first reason of selecting this topic. The second reason was the topic is very popular in Asian, but no one would really address this issue publicly. Lastly, the third reason was I am totally agree with the ideas on the article, which portray the phenomenon that are commonly happened to Asian girls. This situation has affected most of their life by leading them to the improper ways of losing weight and dangerous surgery in order to reach the “unrealistic beauty standard” that are driven by the media showing lots of slim models and hence set the standard on Asian girls intentionally. The good thing about this take-home essay is expanding on an topic that we have already knew, that we are interested and have did the analysis works before is easier compared to work on a new topic. It will help us to develop well the structure of the essay and also insert more ideas into it to make it more plentiful. I was worried before I started doing it as I am still not confident in writing. Therefore, I completed my paper on last Sunday, so that I can get some advice from professor, my tutor in LAC center and Writer’s Resource Lab to improve the grammar structure and word usage as well as make the thesis statement clear enough for my reader. I really worked hard on the take-home essay as this was the first time I did so many changes and proofreading before I submitted
