Whenever I have a hard time, I will always bring the proverb “the bitter must come before the sweet; and that also will make the sweet sweeter” to my mind. I hold this quote with me all the times to remind myself to work hard and also encourage myself to keep striving for my goals. With that mindset, I am always on my way to change, to improve and to be independently successful in the fields of writing and communication. In week six of this semester, the same routine goes in the similar way and my schedule was always filled with classes, homework and tutoring sessions. Likewise, nothing much has happened in this week besides learning new things and a take-home essay to write. Although it was a full exhausted schedule, but I believe that my …show more content…
Writing a topic that we are interested and related to us is easier for us to develop the ideas on an essay; however, finding an interesting article from tons of links are hard for me, I literally went through all the links that are provided on Beachboard just to find an article that I have motivation to work on it. So, I eventually decided to pick an article named “Being the Fat Girl in a Big Fat Asian Family”. I was fascinated by this article because of a picture of Kpop idol “Girls Generation” as my first reason of selecting this topic. The second reason was the topic is very popular in Asian, but no one would really address this issue publicly. Lastly, the third reason was I am totally agree with the ideas on the article, which portray the phenomenon that are commonly happened to Asian girls. This situation has affected most of their life by leading them to the improper ways of losing weight and dangerous surgery in order to reach the “unrealistic beauty standard” that are driven by the media showing lots of slim models and hence set the standard on Asian girls intentionally. Overall, I enjoyed reading this article as the writer stands on the same viewpoint with other Asian …show more content…
The good thing about this take-home essay is expanding on an topic that we have already knew, that we are interested and have did the analysis works before is easier compared to work on a new topic. It will help us to develop well the structure of the essay and also insert more ideas into it to make it more plentiful. I was worried before I started doing it as I am still not confident in writing. Therefore, I completed my paper on last Sunday, so that I can get some advice from professor, my tutor in LAC center and Writer’s Resource Lab to improve the grammar structure and word usage as well as make the thesis statement clear enough for my reader. I really worked hard on the take-home essay as this was the first time I did so many changes and proofreading before I submitted

Based on My Essay 2 work, the comments or feedbacks help me to improve for the next essay which is the Research Paper. It helps me to build my essay into a great one compared to my two essays that I have been done in this course. I learned that I should not stick into one side. For example, in my Essay 2, I should have given pros and cons not just only one side because I mostly give pros and not cons. This is like where I need to balance the arguments between each side.…

During my junior year at Stephen Decatur High School, I was enrolled in American Literature with Mrs. Moore. At first I thought she was a hard teacher because she made us write a lot. I enjoyed writing creative pieces, but in her class she gave us a prompt or we had to analyze a text and prove how the author believed in the American Dream or not. The first essay we wrote I scored a 29 out of 30 and was proud of myself because English has not always been my strongest subject. Our next assignment was on The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald.…

On the first day of class, I felt pretty confident about my level of skills as a writer, but little did I know there were a lot of aspects in my writing that could be improved. As time progressed and we learned more about colloquial language and little things I could change in my essays to further advance and improve my writing. Now, I feel even more confident about my writing and know that all of these little changes I can make in my writing create a better flow of ideas and a higher level of formality. I feel that throughout this semester I have been greatly challenged as a writer and have advanced the most that I ever have in writing within such a short period of time. I have put in a lot time and effort into this class in order to create…

This English class has been very helpful in my efforts to improve my writing abilities, but has also been very challenging due to there being a different median for every essay. It’s been a heavy work load especially this semester since I decided to enroll in five classes, but in the end it has been very beneficial indeed. I can’t say that writing essays has been one of my strong points but I believe that this course has helped me improve tremendously and it has also made me feel a lot more comfortable with my writing. While in high school I would usually write all of my essays a day before the due date a habit of mine that was very difficult to overcome, but now I have learned from my mistakes.…
