It is amazing how much effort actually goes into “paying attention”. Until reading this chapter and listening to the classroom lecture on attention controls, I never realized how daunting of a task focusing on the right thing at the right time could be. From getting ready for school in the morning to completing academic tasks throughout the day, there are so many opportunities for a child to become distracted or overloaded with information. Without having the proper attending skills to “conduct” our brains, children can miss out on valuable information they need to be successful in school.
