If you had asked any of my peers for a description of who I am, they would have said that I was someone who was shy, and possibly even a bit awkward. This was a personality trait that I had been struggling with throughout the majority of my life. I had grown up as an only child, incessantly feeling out of place among my peers. It wasn’t until the middle of my freshman year of high school that I gained the self-confidence I had only dreamed about.…

During the National Process of Reorganization, 1976-1982, Argentina was transformed into a lawless, nightmare republic by a motley crew of sadistic generals and officers whom had carte blanche to commit acts of “murder, rape, torture, extortion, looting and other serious crimes” (1986/1984, x). While it is difficult to tabulate the total number of citizens disappeared by the Argentine military government, the Argentine Commission on Disappeared Persons believes,…

See i had just moved to the new school district area sure I knew some faces but, not enough to make me feel comfortable enough to talk in front of others. I don't remember why I had become the shy type all of the sudden when i spend middle school as a social butterfly but, earth to jenna we weren't in middle school anymore we we're rolling with the big dogs now on the path to college. See not only was i shy but i was also extremely self conscious at the fact that although i was technically i high school student my height and voice were still in the hallways of middle school. You have finally decided it’s time to buy a pet for your home. Now it’s time to narrow down your options and find out which pet is your perfect match. This decision should not be made lightly, and there are some factors to consider; the first being a self-reflection of your personality and how to accommodate your needs, the second would be the lifestyle you bring to the relationship, and finally, are you financially capable of providing a good home for your new pet. When it comes to personality, it’s more of a breakdown of whether you would be considered introverted or extroverted. Someone once taught me something known as the five second rule. If you are unaware of what this technique is, it’s were someone counts to five and does whatever they were too nervous or scared to do previously. First off, I am a really naturally shy person when it comes to raising my hand in class if I know the answer to a question, saying hello to someone new in a class or in the hall, or simply trying to give a presentation in front of the class. Being shy has ruined my confidence levels in myself at times because it makes me second guess everything I do when it comes to answering questions on a test, saying my answer when the teacher calls on me and even talking to my family sometimes because I know if I don’t word my sentences right or…

In Chapter One of Marriage and Family: The Quest for Intimacy, we are introduced to various concepts, facts, and misconceptions concerning the experiences one may have when raising a family or living their life with another human being. Personally, there was plenty of information to learn and discover in this chapter, but if I had to narrow it down to three things that I found most interesting, I believe I would say that I was most fascinated when I had read about loneliness, and the myth concerning having children for an increase in marital satisfaction. As a child, I was very shy in school and I did my best to stay out of everyone’s way. Granted, Praise the Lord that I had a wonderful family and church to lean on, because if I hadn’t,…

I have had difficulty in all subjects at one point in time, especially language and communication. I believe all these difficulties arose from my family's Hispanic roots. My parents had never gone to school and they only knew how to speak Spanish so when they arrived in the United States 20 years ago, it was both a dream come true and at one point in time a nightmare. Too many not understanding the language of the land you live in is like losing your voice and becoming invisible.…

Shyness is a state of being that is experienced by many people, even adults. Individuals who are shy may experience difficulties pertaining to educational situations, and other circumstances involving social interactions. Shyness, as a behavioral characteristic has been a focus of research in psychology; however, the majority of studies have been conducted on children, in a classroom setting. Societal norms limit the extent to which shy adults are even considered, thus, the focus tends to be on combating shyness in children, rather than adults. The experience of those who are shy is one which is likely surrounded by difficulties with an inner sense of belonging and, possibly, frustration in not being able to express themselves in person.…
