Being Late To School Essay

Why should people show up to school late if they are going to get less of a punishment than calling in sick and then their day is freed up? Through my experience, I have realized that high school students would rather skip a whole entire day of school because they end up being late to school due to something last second popping up. The reason for this behavior is since many schools would rather have students get harsh punishments for not being to school on time even for being a couple of minutes late. He has his license and can drive around now, the only problem is that in the morning when he must take his siblings to school is, that his mother works third shift and she arrives home around the time Jimmy needs to start heading out. Every school day he must get his two siblings ready and feed them breakfast. It is difficult for him because at the same time he must get ready with them. In the winter days, he has to shovel snow early in the morning so his mother can make it up the driveway and so there is a less chance of his siblings falling. If students are going to be late and they know they will receive a not as harsh punishment, they will end up only missing the minutes they are being late not the whole day. I know that it is still different from being on time, but at the end it will be the best option to attempt to bring the absent percentage down from our schools. People who don’t care about students would say that it will only make students be late more since it’s a less harsh punishment, however some students don’t choose to be late, unexpected things happen and that is what makes their time short. In conclusion, I believe that lowering punishments for being late will help improve the percentage of students who attend school. Also, students will make the effort of being on time since getting a lunch detention is still not a cool thing to receive. There is also another reason
