Being In Middle Adulthood

Improved Essays
Being in the middle adulthood is not so bad. I can remember thinking thirty was old but that came and went with no problems, then forty came and went with no problems. The best changes were that both my children graduated high school. Then my daughter got married and now has three children. I no longer have the stress of being a parent of a young child or adolescent. I thoroughly enjoy spoiling my grandchildren and can give them back to their parents. At one time, I thought I had all the time in the world to go back to school and finish my degree, but now I realize that is no longer true. I like my job, but am now ready to try something new. I returned to school to finish my degree in nursing so that I have more job opportunities available

The media, depending on the type, show either a positive or a negative image of middle adulthood. Disney sitcoms are especially notorious for showing adults as ugly, ignorant, and dysfunctional people. Whereas shows like "Bonanza", show middle adulthood as a time to enjoy rather than to dread. One should also find ways to find some levity about middle adulthood, like comedian Bob Hope did by quipping, "Middle age is when your age starts to show around your middle (Lockwood-…
