One side is white lies but a few others are Broken Promises which are failures to keep a verbal promise. (McAllister), Fabrications which is when you tell someone something without knowing if it was true (McAllister), regular lies, exaggeration which is when you over state a truth, Deception, Plagiarism, and compulsive lying. White lies are the ones littlest as well as the most common. They are called white lies because they are spoken for many different reasons. Such as “Trying to spare someone’s feelings or pride.” (“Do”) or “Not wanting others to think badly of us” (“Do”). White lies come in many forms like telling someone they look good in an outfit when they really didn’t, accepting a bad gift from someone but telling them you love it when you don’t. Other than white lies there are straight out lies like, lying about being busy when you’re really not, about doing a chore when you really didn’t and, when asked if you stole something and you say you didn’t when you did. Lies that get people killed or hurt. Those are bad lies. When a criminal doesn’t fess up to a crime he has committed. Lies like these are not ok but where is the line? There is a line between good lies and bad lies but where? Good lies are white lies. Like telling you significant other she/he looks good when she/he might not. Then there are bad lies like stealing a TV. The line is where the white lies turn evil. When you start to see yourself use white lies to get out of being in trouble. When you use them over and over just to avoid something. That is where the line is. But even with that in mind without white lies, without trying to maintain our relationship with people, without worrying out other people’s feelings we would be heartless.
