Being Enlightened With Age

You begin to identify who you are at a young age, not perceiving much to begin with, but with time you teach yourself who you want to be; Creating and changing perspective as you become enlightened with age, but still true to the youth you began with. Naturally, I enjoyed cutting the hairs off my Barbie dolls, creating slime out of the foods I ate, and initiating burp competitions with my siblings. My mother had a full plate, but It’s safe to say I am not the same girl, apart from the occasional burping contest which to this day is a tradition. During my time as a child, I’ve grown the love of creation that has stuck to this day. Countless hours spent designing, planning, and initiating the ideas I had for myself in my head. I was never completely conscious of what I’d gain, as my mind bounced to bigger ideas fueled with excitement for what’s upcoming. It was the fact that I wasn’t afraid to think unconventionally, no limitations in my mind to what I can do. Beginning with academics, I enjoyed turning boring projects into something the teacher could present to the class, setting the example that couldn’t be outdone. Homework and projects were no longer just work, but something I’d love to throw my time at. Thus, gaining confidence in my creative abilities as my …show more content…
“It’s Almost Christmas Day” was the first actual song I’ve ever written, only made up of one verse, but to this day I have so much admiration for it. This was something special to no one else but me, created by me. I didn’t try to seek validation to whether it’s good or not from others because I was already sure that it was a winner to me. That was the realization that these forms of creation hold a truth no one else could fully comprehend to the extent as the maker itself. It was a song about Christmas to everyone else, but to me this was the beginning of me defining who I truly wanted to

    Ageism In Retrospect

It is possible that it was not Knisley’s intention to portray her grandparents as such, but it does not change the fact that throughout the story they are often only seen in her company. Therefore, their dependence on their granddaughter leaves themselves “transformed into passive objects”, enabling her to portray them unconsciously into one-dimensional characters rather than actual people (Biggs 4). While a comic may intend to hold certain elements fictitious, it is hard to decipher Knisley’s goal when she places a picture of her grandparents and herself to validate that they are real (Knisley 116). In retrospect, through her narrative she imposes a perspective of her grandparents, which is the stereotypical view of elderly characters. Following Biggs’ idea, Knisley also then applies in her story the “recognition of respect and stigma of lost personal control” in the way she handles her grandparents (Biggs 10).…

Feeling negligent in creative endeavors, I have often wondered about creativity, where does it come from, and how is it developed? These questions are what author and speaker Amy Tan muses over in her discourse entitled “Where does Creativity Hide?” I find her perspective both intriguing and provocative, appreciating much of what she has to say, while disagreeing on occasion as well. Amy Tan (2008) begins by considering three facets that develop creativity in individuals.…

When I was 10 years old I was just an ordinary little girl who loved to climb trees, play with cars, play soccer, and pretend to be a lawyer or a doctor. My individual creativity personally took me a while to uncover, I only recently unearthed my true creativity during my junior year. I express my creativity through makeup, poetry, painting, drawing and redecorating my surroundings such as my room which I like to think of as my sanctuary because it’s the only place I can disconnect myself from everything, focus on myself and reflect on my days. Makeup is my main outlet of expression since that’s the one that’s in the spotlight and is a quote on quote paraded for the public eye to see when used correctly and minimally to enhance ones beauty it makes a person look more presentable and put together. Educating the Whole Child: Where Have the Arts Gone Sir Ken Robinson, Professor Emeritus, author, educator, and public speaker advising on the importance of the Arts in schools to foster creativity in children, was videotaped at a TED conference where he asked the question, “Do Schools Kill Creativity?” The overall message is that the creative spark is being educated out of our children in public schools. Robinson states, “Creativity now is as important in education as literacy, and we should treat it with the same status. (Robinson 2:56) Young children are not afraid try new things, often have ideas which we adults squash, and our educational system is geared away from kindling that spark of the creative gene.…
