Being an outcast and the idea of outcasts is a universal topic because wherever you go will be different than the place you grew up, which can make you an outsider. It can be hard to understand why people exclude someone just because they are different, but it can also be quite simple. Being an outcast can either be a weakness or it can be a strength. It all depends on the situation.
Everybody has their own way of being an outcast, even if it is just being outcasted by one group. A lot of people are friends with the people who accept them for who they are, even if they are excluded from a different group of people. The story By Any

Someone visiting a different country, like Japan, may find some of the things they do strange, or even weird. That is because the person who visited Japan was not originally from Japan and therefore did not know or learn all of the customs. Just as that person was an outsider when they visited Japan, a Japanese person visiting America would probably think that some of the things Americans do is strange or weird. This may not always be the case, though, because some people research a country before they visit. Heritage can also play a part in someone being considered an outsider. In the story By Any Other Name, Premila and her younger sister, Santha, are forced to change their name in school to English names because it would help make them “fit in.” Even after changing their names, the girls are still outcasted from the English and Anglo-Indian kids. In paragraph 27, Santh says, “Even at that age it was apparent to all of us that friendship with the English or Anglo-Indian children was out of the question.” This helps show that someone’s ethnicity and background can cause them to be

Chris McCandless was tired with society and seeked an escape from it. He did this by heading into the wild to become more in tune with himself and find the meaning of happiness. I agree with the author that Chris was not a crazy sociopath, or an outcast, as he always seemed to be around company on his journey to Alaska, but he was not as competent as the author, Jon Krakauer, believed he is. Chris was not happy with the way life was going so he set out on a journey from Georgia all the way to Alaska to find the meaning of happiness. Chris felt the world was one of “abstraction and security and material excess” and left on a “journey that would change everything” (22).…

The Outcast by Sadie Jones , is saturated in the same high colour, as the embracing couple on its cover. Like that couple, their endeavour tends to be tender, urgent and yearning, but is also filled with tremendous hatred, abuse and violence. The story begins in the the August of 1957- the breathless summer heat appears again and again in this story, driving events to extremely shocking climaxes, reflecting unrelenting hypocrisy everywhere.…

For this sociological experiment I broke the norm that led to the ¨personal bubble¨ rule, by getting, “too close¨ to strangers when I talk to them by society's standards. This social norm shows that people are used to having their own space and not having others be within a certain distance. When you talk or interact with another person you both are in control of the personal space given. This leads to me testing others by stepping over boundaries to make them feel uncomfortable, nervous, or embarrassed.…

veryone has the ability to belong, it's just the matter figuring out which group or person you belong with. Some people think that they do not belong anywhere but the truth is everyone has the human need to belong somewhere and the need to be accepted by someone. In the play Romeo and Juliet it is made clear where the people of Verona belong, they are supposed to be with their own families either in the montague family or the capulet family but not to be a mix of both. William Shakespeare however shows us that where we belong is not determined by the way society and your family feels, it is determined by you and where you feel you fit in most. There are many elements that affect an individual’s ability or inability to belong, the major factors that affect this ability can be simple things like being dedicated to your relationship, having a loyal relationship, and being able to trust that person.…

Ostracism is a common experience among individuals in a social group or community. Many of these outsiders often question the reason for their exclusion – is it because they are misjudged or misunderstood by their peers? Franz Kafka’s short story “The Metamorphosis” and the Christmas song “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer” demonstrates that outsiders are those with unique qualities that cannot contribute back to their community as opposed to those who are misjudged or misunderstood. In “The Metamorphosis”, traveling salesman Gregor Samsa awakens one morning to discover that his body has been transformed into one of a “monstrous verminous bug (137)”.…
