Instructional Leadership course provided a great way not only to learn new concepts but also to reflect on my leadership practices and make important steps toward some changes. There are three words that come to my mind when I think about this course: curriculum, assessment and PLC. The concepts behind these words are closely connected to all elements of Standards 2 that were covered in this course. In my experience, leadership is an everyday concept that is seen in and out of the workplace or classroom. Different leadership styles emerge in friendships and social groups as the roles of leader and follower are subconsciously assigned. I think understanding these dynamics can help you to develop your relationship with others and to help you push yourself out of your comfort zone. I find that people don't need to be leaders in every scenario and that ones leadership qualities can emerge differently depending on the situation. I want to be a relatable role model as an Orientation Leader because I will have just finished my first year as a student at Suffolk so I understand how intimidating it was to start this new chapter of my life. The Leadership Development Plan I had produced at the end of the semester laid out a path to implement three specific goals for my progress as a leader. The goals I created were based off the feedback I received from my peers within the Benchmark 360 Feedback process. I believe I would be a good Course Leader because of my solution-oriented, down-to-earth approach. I've taken on leadership roles before, especially in my position as a Scout troop leader but also in previous jobs and projects - I like to get work done, and to find ways to do it as efficiently as possible.
