Being An Honors Student

Decent Essays
Being an honors student is not as easy to maintain as it may seem. Between the endless hours of studying for seven classes, working five to six nights a week, and keeping a grip on my social life, high school has not been a breeze. Having said that, getting handed back my report card at the end of the quarter never fails to give me the best sense of accomplishment. In fact, that feeling is the whole reason I try so hard to keep my grades high. Being self-driven has been a big part of why I can achieve all that I do. I feel as if a lot of students have lost the motivation to put their all into a task. The way I see it, if I turn in a paper, whether it be not for a grade at all, or an exam grade, I need to put in everything I have for it, simply

To be quite honest with myself, I really am not sure why I’m so intrigued to apply and be part of the honors program at DePaul University. I’m an undergraduate who’s feeling so anxious but yet so terrified of being in college and not in high school. Just like any other undergraduate I want to fit in and have a lenient 4-year college experience. But that’s not enough for me because I’m extremely aware of my capacity not just as an individual but also as a student. I’m someone who enjoys the thrill of being challenged, why?…

Since day one of my freshmen year, I knew I wanted to make my education count 100%. Throughout my life, I’ve had my fair share of good and bad decisions but the best decision of my life was to get my grades straight and focus on school. For the past two and a half years, i’ve put my absolute best into coming out on top and so far i’ve succeeded. Being invited into the National Honors Society is definitely one of my biggest accomplishments that i’m very proud of. When I was a bit younger, around seventh or eighth grade, my grades weren’t anything I took a lot of pride in.…

Like many students, college students always want the easiest way to attain a good grade. That was what I experienced in high school. Teachers give credit for work completed rather than the accuracy of the work and students would receive credit for things that had nothing to do with materials being taught in class. For example, my teacher would give extra credit on essays for bringing tissue boxes to class. In high school, students get used to slacking off and procrastinating however teachers seemed like they did not care to help discourage these bad habits.…

I know that my students can do the work, but there is no motivation for them to do so. I feel like if we could change that or even help in some way, I would have less students dropping out at the high school level and more kids coming to school. I honestly do not know if this problem could be fixed or what research we have that is out there on this. I am curious to see what research is available and what strategies or interventions we could use possible for my very own…

The term honor in National Honor Society can be used to describe an individual that shows integrity, equality and respect through their actions. As a student of Beacon high school, I have made many efforts to model my daily actions around exemplifying the student of honor. Through demonstrations of leadership, character, and service, I have shown my qualification to be admitted into the National Honor Society. I exhibit good character to the community by helping to teach younger children during Sunday school at my church. For the past three months I have volunteered in the youth department teaching elementary students ethical lessons, actively shaping their morals.…

As I was in secondary school as a green bean, a sophomore and junior honors and awards was critical for me on the grounds that after I completed secondary school, I can tell other individuals what I did in secondary school. Likewise, I can put it on my resume. Which helps me to land a position even entry level positions for school. What's more, for any understudy's I know the one still in secondary school, I prescribe them to strive to get awards and honors in light of the fact that for secondary school understudy's uniquely for first year recruit understudy's they have a lot of time to buckle down with a specific end goal to get honors and awards since you don't get what you wish for, you get what you work for. The awards and honors I got…

I remember feeling my stomach do a flip turn as I watched who entered the room. A friend of mine was sitting in front of the Honor Council. At my high school, the Honor Council is an elected group of six students including four faculty advisors, which hears cases of students who have broken the school's honor code: "I pledge on my honor not to lie, cheat, steal, plagiarize, or vandalize. " I was elected at the end of my sophomore year to the position and had promised my peers to hear cases with an unbiased ear and to speak for all of them in the panel's discussions. It was not until I was hearing the case of a friend that I knew how difficult that promise was going to be.…

I could actually have a life then instead of doing homework all day. I could participate in extracurricular activities like I used to when I participated in lacrosse, but now I can’t because my grades are slipping due to not finishing homework! I could do fun things instead of homework because it keeps me cooped up inside like a prisoner in a penitentiary cell and I hate it (“Too Much Homework, Too Little Time”, pg. 2)!” In conclusion, there are many reasons why students do not…

When things get hard one has to keep moving on, it may not seem possible at the time, but it is something you have to do. The obstacle may seem like a mountain, but you can make it over that mountain if you have motivation to do so. This way of thinking will carry over to the Honors program. If something seems impossible or if I am faced with something I do not understand, I know I need to ask questions and that if I want something I have to work hard to get what I want, wheter it is a grade or an…

Dr. Kurt A. Wiesenfeld states that college students in today 's society were brought up on “gold stars for effort and smiley faces for self-esteem” and I completely agree with this statement. Students having been rewarded for everything in their childhood still have the demented illusion that they will be rewarded for whatever they do. The problem with this, however, is that students are performing with minimal effort and still expecting outrageous grades in return. I personally know multiple people who do the minimum amount of work required, when they receive a poor grade in return they throw a tantrum. They freak out to the teacher.…
