Choosing an eye doctor is very important for the health of the eyes. An eye doctor helps in safeguarding the sense of sight and also helps in maintain a lifetime good vision. There are different types of eye doctors treating different diseases and it is important to understand which type of doctor to be contacted for particular eye problem. Eye doctor Atlanta has Optometrists and ophthalmologists who treat various types of eye problems. An optometrist is an eye doctor who examines eyes for both vision and health problems and correct refractive errors by prescribing eye glasses and contact lenses. Optometrists in some areas of the world are licensed to prescribe medications to treat some eye problems and diseases. Optometrists also participate in pre and post operative care in case if the surgery is performed by ophthalmologist.

An ophthalmologist is a medical doctor who specializes in eye and vision care. Once the eye problems is controlled or surgically treated then the ophthalmologist sends back the patient to the optometrist, who then continues to monitor and treat the condition or perform any post operative care based on the ophthalmologist
